Geotextile Underlayment
|
Why Do I Need Underlayment?
The biggest contributors to pond liners failing are poor, unstable soil conditions and rips and tears from rocks and boulders. Shifting soil creates pockets and voids under your pond liner, forcing it to stretch under the weight of the water. Rocks and boulders when placed on and around your water feature create aesthetically pleasing visual focal points. They can also penetrate, tear and harm your liner.
Underlayment add an extra layer of protection between pond liner and rocky or unstable soils. It stabilizes soil to prevent air voids from forming between the liner and earth; reduces wear and abrasion from rocks and roots and extends the life of pond liner.
Underlayment is also used to make pads for rocks and boulders placed inside of a pond, preventing unwanted damage.

Sizing Is Easy
To order exactly the same amount of underlayment as pond liner, use our convenient 'shop by cut sizes' feature. We stock cut liner sizes to match each cut liner size we sell. Underlayment is available in 7.5', 10' & 15' orandard widths. If you order a 20' x 20' piece of Patior 45 mil EPDM Pond Liner and order underlayment, the underlayment will arrive as 2 - 10' x 20' pieces.
Rock and Boulder Pads
Order extra underlayment to cushion decorative rocks and boulders used in and around the water feature. Professional installers often fold a double or quadruple thickness of underlayment to create resting pads. Depending on the water feature you are designing you may want to purchase 20 - 50% more underlayment than liner. In the end, it's a very small component in the overall cost of a water feature.
Half Off Ponds recommends underlayment for every pond installation
